Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts, Culture & Humanities, Media & Communications
Mission: The mission of Independent Arts & Media is to expand civic dialogue by increasing access to independent voices. We support people, projects and organizations who build community through media, journalism, the arts and culture. We strengthen community expression, dialogue and access to information through grassroots incubator services. Media, journalism, the arts and culture are all arenas of social interaction and civic engagement in dialogue with each other. Often these arenas are closed to public participation due to commercial or institutional barriers; we enable and encourage participate. Independent Arts & Media supports people and projects who build community through media, journalism, the arts and culture. We champion those media producers and culture makers who are doing significant work that advances civic engagement and cultural participation in our democracy.
Results: We have fiscally sponsored dozens of arts and media projects. The Expo for the Artist & Musician has helped bring together creative services for Bay Area constituents for more than a decade. The San Francisco Arts Market in UN Plaza is helping to activate an essential area in the civic landscape, all while helping artists promote and network within their community.
