Mission: The mission of Art Share L.A. is to create equitable access to and inclusive opportunities for every artist in the Los Angeles community. We work to eliminate the complex systems of privilege and power embedded in the art world which limit many black, indigenous, people of color, disabled, LGBTQ+, low-income, and other historically marginalized communities from finding success in the creative economy. For Art Share L.A., equity is a continual practice and we commit to an ongoing journey towards building services and programs that are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-biased, and anti-isms. We strive to be culturally and ethnically diverse and inclusive in all areas of our organization, including our board leadership, executive team, staff, volunteers, committees, and participating artists by adding more seats at the decision-making table. We firmly believe that curation is most inclusive and equitable when multiple perspectives lend their voices by bringing their whole selves to their work and creative practice. Art Share L.A. is committed to paying fair, living wages for staff and artists. We also continue to advocate for clients and corporations to pay artists a fair, living wage to break the cycle of the “starving artist”. Art Share L.A. provides a safe and creative environment for artists to live, work, develop, perform, and exhibit free from judgment and protects the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of working artists each year; representing the manifold social experiences and cultural voices of those living in and around our community; and infusing our community with the vibrant energy that comes from artists creating and sharing work.

I've been visiting Art Share for over 20 years since my undergrad days at UCLA. It was an amazing resource for all my artist friends offering a safe space to explore and hone their craft when there weren't many places that opened their doors so warmly. And it continues to be an amazing resource that offers local artists a place to learn, teach, share, and live. Especially now with the rapid development of the Arts District, Art Share plays an even more important role as one of the last standing organizations in the neighborhood to support emerging artists with such a wide range of resources. I'm honored to be a part of such an important organization with such a great board and staff!

I grew up in Los Angeles living in the Art's District as a struggling young musician decades ago. With the growth and change of this special neighborhood it makes me proud to know an organization like Artshare LA is preserving what it was built on. Withstanding the tests of adversity, Artshare LA continues to provide housing, exhibition space, work space, performance space and support mechanisms for artists from all over. If the Art's District was a body, Artshare LA would be the heart.

ArtShare LA is a cornerstone of the Arts District community. From affordable housing to studios, galleries to performance spaces and educational resources on top of all that - the organization provides everything an aspiring artist would need to pursue a career in the Arts. Its a wonderful group of staff and patrons who are committed to keeping art a meaningful part of the neighborhood. I’m incredibly proud and honored to be a part of it.

Art Share L.A. (est. 1998) welcomed me with open arms. I was so ecstatic to find an organization that's mission aligned so perfectly with my passions. Art Share L.A. provides affordable housing to low-income artists, is a space for affordable event rentals, uplifts and exhibits emerging L.A. artists and curators, promotes artist professional growth opportunities, and advocates for artists to remain in the communities they have helped develop. The staff is made up of wonderful, hard working individuals who truly care about the mission and the organization is placed within a thriving community of art-loving businesses and resident individuals. The board members are hands-on and dedicated to the vitality of Art Share L.A., contributing insight as working professionals, arranging opportunities, and equipping the organization for success. I am so grateful to be connected to Art Share L.A. and am so excited to see how it's legacy develops.

Art Share LA has been a second home to me for 5 years, and since the beginning of 2022, my first home as well! I first found Art Share through a Life Drawing workshop put on by Muze, and began volunteering shortly after. From the art shows that include emerging and established artists from all over LA, to the myriad events and performances held in the theater, Art Share always brings some new facet of LA to audiences of all ages and backgrounds! Also providing affordable housing upstairs, Art Share ensures there will always be a place for creatives in the Arts District.

My name is Evelyn Martinez and I have been involved with Art Share Los Angeles since my 10th grade in high school. I am now in my second year in college and I am still involved with this organization because it became my second home. Art Share has been a place that has offered me guidance and a safe space to grow as an artist. Art Share helped me defeat my community's stereotype and gave me and my siblings a better path to follow. When I found out about Art Share I was afraid to go and see what it was about because I was only 15 and I was extremely shy. Once I became comfortable within their program and with the staff I told everyone I knew about Art Share because I wanted everyone to have the same experience I did. Apart from them helping me stay focused in school they allowed and gave me the opportunity to grow as an individual. If it wasn't for Art Share I would have never been exposed to art and art's healing powers. I wouldn't be the person I am now.

Recently, I've been wanting to get more involved with non profit organizations because I feel that they are society's safety net when more and more government establishments cut back on educational resources. Art Share's mission to cultivate artistic talent within at-risk youth is a testament to a greater good, which is the development of creative, well-rounded people. Everyone is an artist and Art Share is the mirror that reflects that back at whoever is involved with the organization. Each time I go to Art Share, I feel compelled to help spread their vision and achievement to as many people as possible so I volunteered to help with their social network on the Internet. The staff at Art Share is some of most passionate and charismatic people I've ever met and make every volunteer feel like family. It feels wonderful to be a part of a true sanctuary for art in Los Angeles and hear about stories of the students' adversity and triumph. With more resources, I am certain that Art Share's future will be brighter, that they will reach more people, and build more character and innovation within the city's youth.
